Toy Story 5 Teaser Sets The Beloved Duo Against a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story movie was released, launching Pixar as a major animation studio and bringing viewers to iconic figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a brief look into the storyline but keeping viewers curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang
The preview shows the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a brand new plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer avoids is why Woody is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.
Surely, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?
Connections from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The final act Woody did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the insignia pinned to her shirt.
Hopefully she is still the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
